Ucad : Scènes de "chaos" dans au Campus
Tear gas grenades fired in the dormitories, students assaulted and arrested, and female students asphyxiated by tear gas in their rooms. The situation is very tense at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.
Early Monday morning, law enforcement entered the campus to confront students who had launched a protest following the closure of university restaurants. Voices were raised to denounce the current situation in the academic sphere.
Among them is that of activist Pape Abdoulaye Touré. "Students in no way deserve such treatment in today's Senegal. What a disappointment to see the same methods of the past that we fought so hard against at the University," he denounced.
Pastef Ucad has published a statement on the matter. It alerts the authorities to "the alarming situation currently prevailing at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, marked by the presence of law enforcement inside the campus." It demands the withdrawal of the police.
But for now, the detectives are still operating on campus. And many fear that something irreparable will happen.
