UGB : L’idée d’une année invalide évoquée par le Conseil académique
Meeting on March 24, 2026, the UGB Academic Council did not rule out the invalidation of the academic year, due to the persistent student strike.
The Academic Council of Gaston Berger University (UGB) in Saint-Louis has raised the possibility of invalidating the 2025-2026 academic year, in a context marked by the continuation of the student strike.
In a resolution adopted at the end of its meeting on March 24, 2026, the body expressed its deep concern about the disruptions affecting the conduct of teaching and assessments.
Although it officially maintains the date of August 14, 2026 for the end of the academic year, it does not rule out exceptional measures.
Thus, the council plans to meet in August to assess "the opportunity to invalidate the year or a semester", based on the proposals formulated by the various training units and the Polytechnic Institute of Saint-Louis (IPSL).
Furthermore, the Academic Council called for disciplinary proceedings to be initiated against the students involved in the disruptions, believing that some actions had hindered the smooth running of educational activities.
The body also noted that the Coordination of Students of Saint-Louis (CESL), suspended since 2019, has no official recognition, specifying that only elected representatives within university structures are authorized to engage in dialogue with the authorities.
These announcements were made amid persistent tensions at UGB, where the university crisis continues to weigh on the academic calendar.
