"Waadial Xaleyi" : Saint-Louis mobilisée pour une jeunesse citoyenne et patriotique
The municipal phase of the universal mechanism for strengthening citizenship and patriotism, called "Waadial Xaleyi," was officially launched on Thursday, October 23 and Friday, October 24, 2025, in Saint-Louis. The Ameth Fall girls' high school served as the setting for this activity initiated by the Ministry of National Education, in partnership with the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
This national program aims to prepare young people to build a sovereign, just and prosperous Senegal, based on values of responsibility, discipline and civic engagement.
Designated coordinator of the "Waadial Xaleyi" mechanism by the commander of military zone No. 2, Commander of the North Naval Base, Captain Abdou Wahab Sarr, praised the strong mobilization of students and teachers around the activities carried out. The program included public interest actions, including cleaning operations to beautify the living environment of the Ameth Fall high school.
"We also organized an awareness march on the dangers of illegal immigration and on environmental protection," the officer explained.
In an educational approach, field visits also allowed young people to discover how local institutions work, through visits to government, the town hall and the Veterans' House.
These two days of civic activities ended with reforestation sessions in several public buildings, symbolizing a concrete commitment to combating the effects of climate change, which particularly threaten the three-hundred-year-old city of Saint-Louis.
Commander Abdou Wahab Sarr specified that the momentum will continue in the decentralized phase. "In Saint-Louis, throughout the month of November until mid-December, several courses will be given to high school students on citizenship, patriotism, and environmental protection," he indicated.
He also announced that the upcoming activities of "Waadial Xaleyi" will focus on raising awareness among young people about drugs and online betting, two scourges that are weakening Senegalese youth.
Thus, "Waadial Xaleyi" is gradually establishing itself as a privileged framework for civic education and moral training in the service of young people aware of their duties towards the nation.
