Pétrole sénégalais : Woodside dévoile les chiffres des ventes et annonce une baisse des débits de production
The Woodside oil company has released its first quarter 2026 figures. Across all its assets, production fell to 45.2 million barrels of oil equivalent, compared to 49.1 million in the same period last year.
However, its sales grew to 51.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, compared to 50.3 million in the same period last year. Operating income also declined to $3.2 billion, compared to $3.3 billion in March 2025.
In Senegal, $479 million in Sangomar
In Senegal, the production sold by Woodside to Sangomar fell to 6.8 million barrels at the end of the first quarter of this year, down from 7.6 million barrels in the previous quarter. However, revenues increased, rising from $479 million in the last quarter of 2025 to $524 million in the first quarter of 2026, a significant increase of $45 million.
The operator of the Sangomar field indicates that their optimization of producing wells, combined with sound management of the pipelines and hydraulics of the system, allowed them to maintain sustained production throughout the quarter. "However, we anticipate a decline in oil production rates by the end of 2026," they announced. This decline will certainly have an impact on future revenues.
The anticipated decline in production for 2026
Often referred to as natural production decline or pressure drop, a decrease in oil production rates describes the reduction in the amount of crude oil that a well or oil field can extract over time. This is an inevitable phenomenon once a reservoir reaches maturity.
The Ministry of Economy had announced this phenomenon, which risks dragging down the country's economic growth to 2.5% in 2026, compared to 6.7% in 2025. This "slowdown is linked to a decrease in the contribution of hydrocarbons after a full year of production," the ministry explained in its report entitled "Recent Economic Developments and Outlook."
