[Exclusif] Abdourahmane Sarr au BIG 2025 « La Vision Sénégal 2050 mise sur l’innovation et l’entrepreneuriat »
Paris - Accor Arena. On the sidelines of the BIG 2025 trade show, a major innovation and entrepreneurship event organized by Bpifrance in Paris, Seneweb obtained an exclusive interview with Abdourahmane Sarr, Senegal's Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation. At the heart of our discussions were the relevance of Senegal's participation in this global forum and the outlines of Vision Senegal 2050, a strategic roadmap for the country's future.
“Senegal must be an actor, not a spectator”
Speaking about the significance of his presence at BIG 2025, the minister explained that such an event is not just a matter of protocol.
"Being present at a trade show like BIG 2025 is not trivial. It's about demonstrating that the structural transformation of our economy requires innovation, creativity, and openness to the world. Senegal must be a player in these dynamics, not a spectator," he said.
For him, participating in an event of this magnitude is an exceptional showcase. “BIG is a space where investors, entrepreneurs, and public decision-makers meet. Our role is to show that Senegal has talent, projects, and a clear vision. It’s also an opportunity to strengthen our visibility and forge strategic alliances,” he continued.
The minister emphasized the importance of the Senegalese diaspora and young entrepreneurs. "We come here to build partnerships, capture new ideas, and above all, show that Senegal is a land of opportunity. We must encourage our startups and give them international exposure."
A long-term ambition
Reflecting on his speech at the fair, Abdourahmane Sarr detailed the spirit of Vision Senegal 2050. For him, this long-term goal aims to project the country into a new era, based on competitiveness, innovation and human capital.
"Vision Senegal 2050 sets out a clear path. It is based on a more diversified and sustainable economic model, capable of creating quality jobs and improving the well-being of the population," he said.
He also emphasized the concrete levers that will support this ambition. "We must invest massively in young people, because they are the ones who will drive innovation and transformation in our economy. Training is essential to prepare people with skills suited to the jobs of tomorrow," he added.
According to the minister, access to financing is also a priority. "Senegalese entrepreneurs must be able to find the resources to bring their ideas to fruition. Public-private partnerships, sovereign wealth funds, and innovation support mechanisms are key tools for unlocking this potential."
Finally, he highlighted Senegal's place on the regional and global stage. "We want to make our country an African hub where local know-how and openness to international markets are combined. Innovation is not an option. It is the very driving force of our future prosperity."
A strong signal to the world
Senegal's participation in BIG 2025 demonstrates a clear commitment to ensuring the country's long-term presence in the major economic transformations of this century. For Abdourahmane Sarr, Senegal's presence in Paris sends a clear message to the international community. "Our future depends on our ability to innovate, to undertake, and to cooperate. Senegal is not destined to remain on the sidelines. It is destined to be important."
