Chantage aux vidéos intimes à Thiadiaye : le neveu, sa tante et le piège de WhatsApp
The Mbour court examined a "sextortion" case that deeply outraged the residents of Thiadiaye, who turned out in large numbers to attend the hearing. At the heart of the case, as reported by L'Observateur in its Friday, May 22nd edition, is IF Gaye, 24, who is being prosecuted for collecting and distributing pornographic images to the detriment of his uncle's wife. The events date back to the beginning of May. The victim, A. Ndiaye, whose husband lives in Europe, had made intimate videos at his request. Unfamiliar with digital tools, she had entrusted her phone to her husband's nephew to send the content via WhatsApp.
But after the files were transmitted, the accused allegedly took advantage of a moment of inattention to keep a copy on his own phone.
A few days later, he allegedly used a new SIM card to conceal his identity and contacted the victim, sending her the images and initially demanding sexual favors. When she refused, he reportedly resorted to threats of posting them on social media, accompanied by insults, to extort money.
The victim eventually filed a complaint with the Thiadiaye gendarmerie. The technical investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspect, who was remanded in custody at Mbour prison.
In court, the defendant admitted to the acts and apologized, according to the newspaper published by Groupe Futurs Médias. Visibly distressed, the plaintiff expressed her anguish and fear of having her images broadcast, while declining to seek damages. The prosecutor requested the strict application of the law, and the court adjourned the case for deliberation until May 26.
