A man identified by the initials A. NG, a driver by profession, appeared before the court in Thiès to answer charges of theft involving three bags, a mobile phone, and a sum of money. The charges were brought against him by Ms. MN, who maintains that this was not his first offense.
In court, the plaintiff stated that the individual had broken into her home four times to steal belongings. Regarding the incident that led to the legal proceedings, she explained that around 4:00 a.m., A. NG had scaled the wall of her house through a window in the stairwell. According to her testimony, she caught him in the act and chased him for a considerable distance, but was unable to catch him, while asserting that she had positively identified him. Claiming to have suffered significant material damages, MN demanded 365,000 FCFA in compensation. Her husband, who has reduced mobility, corroborated his wife's statements in their entirety before the judges.
The defendant categorically denied the charges. While A. NG admitted to knowing the complainant for a long time and frequenting her home, he rejected any involvement in theft. In his defense, he offered a radically different version of events, suggesting the accusation was motivated by personal revenge. Before the court, he stated that he had refused the woman's advances toward sexual relations on three occasions. According to him, it was this refusal that drove the complainant to concoct this scheme for revenge.
The public prosecutor, however, considered the charges of theft proven against the defendant. He requested a three-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 50,000 FCFA. The court adjourned the case for deliberation, and the verdict is expected on May 4, 2026.
