Faux-Monnayeurs à Thiès : 510 000 FCFA en Billets Contrefaits et Près de 3 Millions en Billets Noirs Saisis
The police station of the 1st arrondissement of Thiès arrested two individuals for criminal association and attempted circulation of counterfeit currency.
Caught red-handed at the "Le Manguier" bar
The operation followed the exploitation of operational intelligence. The members of the Research Brigade first apprehended a suspect at the bar "Le Manguier", in possession of 120,000 FCFA in counterfeit bills, namely twelve 10,000 FCFA notes.
Further investigations led back to his supplier, who was subsequently arrested. He was found in possession of 390,000 FCFA in counterfeit banknotes, including thirty-nine 10,000 FCFA notes and a batch of black banknotes with an estimated value of 2,980,000 FCFA.
Over 3.4 Million Seized
In total, this operation resulted in the seizure of 510,000 FCFA in counterfeit bills and nearly three million FCFA in black bills, representing a potential loss of more than 3.4 million FCFA avoided for the local economy.
At the end of the procedure, the two accused were brought before the public prosecutor.
