Kédougou : Plus de 62 kg de chanvre indien, 335 caisses de cigarettes et une moto saisis par la gendarmerie
The Kédougou gendarmerie made two significant seizures in the fight against illicit trafficking. During the night of January 6-7, 2026, officers from the Mandancoly support point and the Khossanto brigade seized over 62 kg of Indian hemp, while those from Daloto intercepted 335 cases of contraband cigarettes, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
First seizure: More than 62 kg of Indian hemp discovered in the bushes
As part of their mission to secure the territory, the elements of the Mandancoly support point, reinforced by the Khossanto brigade, carried out a foot patrol on the night of January 6-7, 2026 in the Khossanto sector.
During this nighttime operation, the police made a major discovery. They found, hidden in the bushes, nine 20-liter containers, each containing nine slabs of Indian hemp, for a total weight of 62.370 kg of the drug.
Second seizure: 335 crates of cigarettes and a motorcycle intercepted
In the same spirit of combating illicit trafficking, the elements of the Daloto support point made another spectacular seizure during the same night of January 6-7, 2026.
Following information indicating possible trafficking of fraudulent goods on the Daloto - Mouran axis, the gendarmes from the Daloto support point have set up a strategic surveillance system at the exit of the village of Daloto.
Thanks to this well-organized operation, a motorcycle carrying a large shipment of contraband cigarettes was intercepted. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the motorcycle's owner fled and disappeared, abandoning his vehicle and all his illicit merchandise at the scene.
The seizure carried out by the police consists of a motorcycle used for transporting contraband; three bags each containing 100 cases of cigarettes, i.e. 300 cases and a small bag containing thirty-five cases of cigarettes.
In total, 335 cases of contraband cigarettes were seized, representing considerable commercial value and thus depriving smuggling networks of significant illicit income.
