Souleymane Diallo, 26, single and childless, was sentenced to two years in prison by the Tambacounda High Court. He was prosecuted for indecent assault against Ms. Diallo, his older brother's second wife, whom he attempted to assault after entering her room around 4:00 a.m., while her brother was with his first wife.
The truth came to light when the victim suddenly felt a stranger's hand wandering over her body. Panicked, she jumped up and alerted the entire family. Her husband rushed into the bedroom to investigate and found his younger brother trying to undress his wife.
The complaint filed by the victim at the central police station precipitated the arrest of the accused and his appearance before the prosecutor. In court, the accused, a resident of the Gourel Barry neighborhood, adopted a peculiar attitude: he refused to utter a single word, remaining frozen like a statue before the judges.
In his closing argument, the prosecutor argued that the facts were clearly established and requested a two-year prison sentence. The Tambacounda High Court followed this recommendation to the letter.
