Thiès : Il cultive du chanvre indien dans sa chambre pour "soigner son asthme", prison ferme
The Thiès Magistrates' Court ruled on the case of A. Ciss, prosecuted for cultivating cannabis at his home. The defendant was arrested on April 17, 2026, by officers from the 1st Arrondissement Police Station in Thiès, after an anonymous tip reported the presence of suspicious plants in his residence. The police raid uncovered two cannabis plants in full growth, carefully tended in flowerpots.

The search of his room also led to the seizure of residues and numerous cannabis seeds, evidence confirming illegal cultivation. Following his arrest, A. Ciss was remanded in custody. In court, the defendant admitted to the facts, while claiming he had only planted one plant.
In his defense, he offered an unusual argument, claiming that growing cannabis was intended to alleviate his asthma. He told the judge that he had respiratory problems and that he inhaled the scent of cannabis when he felt an attack coming on. Despite this peculiar medical explanation, the public prosecutor considered the facts to be undeniable and requested the application of the law. The court ultimately found A. Ciss guilty and sentenced him to one month in prison.
