She was certainly stunned. A woman living in Yoff-Airport discovered the lifeless body of a newborn baby inside a drawer of a wardrobe in their home on Monday evening. She informed her husband, G. Ndiaye, who, in turn, alerted the gendarmerie at the Foire.
The police arrived on the scene, conducted their initial investigation, and suspected the kitchen assistant, 17-year-old Mballo. According to Libération, which broke the story, the teenager, who had been employed by the Ndiaye family for two months, quickly confessed. She was taken into custody.
"When questioned, the young woman admitted to giving birth alone before locking the newborn, which was later found lifeless, in the wardrobe," the newspaper reports. "She explained that she was afraid of reprisals from her parents after having a first child out of wedlock."
The same source as Mr. Mballo was referred to the prosecutor's office for infanticide.
