Energie : Le gaz dans les centrales prévu entre fin 2028 et début 2029, Birame Souleye Diop
The Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, Birame Souleye Diop, presented yesterday, Sunday, the main guidelines of the national energy strategy called "Gas to Power". This policy aims to use natural gas to power the country's power plants.
Invited to the program En Vérité on RSI, he indicated that the integration of gas into power plants is planned between the end of 2028 and the first quarter of 2029, as part of the Yaakar Teranga project.
The minister specified that the authorities are continuing negotiations for gas supply, particularly through the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, developed in partnership with BP and Kosmos Energy, while awaiting this deadline.
Birame Souleye Diop also highlighted a major diplomatic and technical advance: the holding, in November 2025, of an unprecedented joint meeting which brought together the Senegalese and Mauritanian parties, BP, Kosmos and the national companies Petrosen and their Mauritanian counterparts.
According to him, this meeting is "the first of its kind to bring all stakeholders together around the same table." Discussions focused on common objectives related to gas production and transportation, in an atmosphere described as "frank, clear, and structured."
