With just two months until the start of the rainy season, concern is growing in the commune of Sinthiou Fissa, located in the department of Bakel. Through municipal councilor Alassane Koundio, residents are speaking out to raise the alarm about the advanced state of disrepair of the road infrastructure, which threatens to completely isolate the area.

Recent books already out of order

According to the local official, the situation is critical on the Sinthiou Fissa-Sakho Counda-Samba Colo-Yérimalé road. This road, built in 2022, is now completely impassable. "All the structures, especially the bridges and culverts, collapsed during the last rainy season," lamented the municipal councilor. Despite the extent of the damage, no repairs have been carried out to date, leaving road users in a state of distress.

The isolation doesn't end there. The road linking Sinthiou Yéro Mbaye to Samba Colo is in a deplorable state, while the long-awaited Soumbourdâka-Gourél-Niba track has never materialized. This lack of infrastructure isolates entire villages like Belly-Djimbara and Bohé, depriving thousands of residents of vital access to healthcare, education, and weekly markets.

With the approaching rainy season, the risks to public safety and local mobility are becoming significant. Residents fear that the situation could become irreversible once the first rains fall, transforming the area into an enclave cut off from the rest of the country.

Local authorities and residents are making an urgent appeal to the Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, Déthié Fall. They are requesting emergency intervention to rehabilitate these strategic roads and open up access to the villages before the worst happens.
