Mbour-Thiadiaye : Voici les grandes innovations de la nouvelle autoroute
Senegal has reached a significant milestone in the development of its road infrastructure with the official inauguration of the 22-kilometer Mbour–Thiadiaye highway section. Authorities and sector officials have welcomed this major step forward, seen as a crucial factor in improving mobility and user safety.
The Director General of the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER), Atoumane Sy, emphasized the importance of highways in improving traffic flow. He noted that while human error remains the primary cause of accidents in Senegal, accounting for nearly 90% of cases, highways are among the safest roads in the country. Mr. Sy nevertheless called on road users to behave responsibly, stressing the importance of respecting the 110 km/h speed limit. He also warned against pedestrians crossing illegally and animals roaming freely, urging residents to consistently use pedestrian overpasses.
For his part, the Director General of Autoroutes du Sénégal (ADS), Ibrahima Sall, highlighted the technological innovations introduced on this section of the highway. Among them, the "ADS Mobilité" mobile application now allows users to track traffic in real time and request rapid assistance. A toll-free number, 1077, also remains available for any emergency situation across the entire network.
One of the major innovations is the installation of an interoperable closed-circuit toll system. This system allows users to travel long distances, for example from Kirène to Thiadiaye, without encountering intermediate barriers, as payment is only made upon exiting the toll plaza. This measure aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow.
Finally, ADS is committed to sustainable mobility with the gradual installation of electric vehicle charging stations along several routes, notably in Thiadiaye and Touba. This new highway section is also distinguished by its innovative management model, implemented for the first time in Senegal by a public company.
