Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who is frequently targeted by Donald Trump, was interrupted Tuesday during a public meeting in Minneapolis by a man who threw a liquid at her, before he was tackled to the ground.

While this figure of the left was speaking from behind a lectern, a man stepped forward and used a syringe to spray an unidentified liquid in his direction, before being apprehended by a security guard.

“Minneapolis security and police quickly apprehended the individual, who is now in custody,” the elected official’s office said in a statement. “The official is doing well. She continued her town hall meeting because she doesn’t let bullies win.”

"These bastards aren't going to get away with this."

Ilhan Omar held this event in her hometown of Minneapolis, a city shaken for weeks by immigration enforcement operations and the deaths of two people resisting them. "We're going to keep going, these bastards aren't going to get away with this," she declared a few seconds later, after asking for a towel.

"We must abolish once and for all" Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the target of the protests in Minneapolis, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem "must resign," she told the crowd earlier.

Ilhan Omar, a prominent figure of the American left of Somali origin, has long been a prime target of the American right, and particularly of Donald Trump. The president mentioned her again on Tuesday in a speech in Iowa. "She comes from a country that is a disaster, it's not even a country, frankly," said Donald Trump, who has been escalating his attacks against Somalia for months.
