French President Emmanuel Macron is safe and sound and is continuing his visit to Syria, the Elysée Palace assured on Tuesday after two bombs exploded near the hotel where he spent the night in central Damascus.

The French president had left the building when the explosions occurred. He is currently at the presidential palace where an expanded meeting is taking place between the French and Syrian leaders and their delegations, which will be followed by a private meeting with Ahmad al-Sharaa, according to the French presidency.
