Iranian officials are responding to the call by the former US president urging authorities to grant asylum to the Iranian women's national team players participating in the competition. The federation considers these remarks "reckless" and aimed directly at the members of the women's national team.

In its statement, the Iranian Football Federation asserts that these positions represent "a clear example of blatant political interference in football affairs." It reiterates that political neutrality is among the fundamental principles upheld by FIFA and calls upon world football authorities to address the issue promptly.

The Iranian Football Federation is calling on international football's governing bodies to investigate the situation and "immediately address this inappropriate conduct." It also emphasizes that the incident comes just 94 days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, believing that this type of controversy could disrupt preparations for this major global football event.

In its statement, the Iranian federation also emphasized the players' conduct during their matches. According to the federation, the international players "proudly sang the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran before the kickoff of their matches" and expressed their support for Iranian forces with a military salute directed at the country's fighters.
