It's a way of self-promotion that no sitting US president had dared to attempt. But with Donald Trump, traditions are being shattered. The president will appear on new passports to be issued to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence in July.
"As the United States celebrates the nation's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of U.S. passports specially designed to commemorate this historic event," spokesman Tommy Pigott wrote Tuesday on X.
Trump's signature in gold
He republished an article from Fox News Digital showing the new design, which includes an inside photo of Donald Trump with his signature in gold, as well as an image of the Founding Fathers gathered on the day of the United States Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A commemorative gold coin bearing Donald Trump's image is also to be minted to mark this anniversary.
Passports bearing Trump's image will only be issued in Washington and will no longer be available once the stock is exhausted, a State Department official said on condition of anonymity.
A name attached to several buildings in Washington
Since his return to power, the name of the current occupant of the White House has been attached to several buildings in the capital, including the iconic Kennedy Center concert hall and the Peace Institute.
Donald Trump also plans to organize an IndyCar race in Washington from August 21 to 23, as part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
