Explosions à Téhéran, des hauts dirigeants en pleine rue en défi aux Etats-Unis et Israël

Powerful explosions again rocked Tehran on Friday, where several top Iranian leaders marched in the streets alongside other protesters, seemingly to defy the United States and Israel.

State television footage shows, among others, the head of security Ali Larijani and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian in the middle of the crowd, who have made few public appearances since the start of the conflict on February 28.

On this 14th day of a war that is shaking the global economy, pro-government Iranians gathered for an annual parade in support of the Palestinians, despite the bombings that began to shake the city early in the morning.

Explosions were heard in the center of the capital, a short distance from the gathering. A woman was killed in the strike, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.

"The problem with (Donald) Trump is that he doesn't understand that the Iranian people are a courageous nation, a strong nation, a determined nation. The more he increases his pressure, the stronger the nation's determination will become. These attacks (near the rally) are linked to fear, to despair," Ali Larijani told state television.

In the large crowd, demonstrators were seen by AFP waving Iranian flags, holding up portraits of the new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei and placards promising hell to Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

The conflict has caused mass exoduses within the country: more than 3 million people have been displaced within Iran, according to the UNHCR.

"Almost every family here is hosting at least one family from Tehran," a 30-year-old woman living in Kermanshah, in the east of the country, told AFP.

On the ground, the "population is extremely tense and revolted", particularly because of the rationing of bread or adhesive tape, supposed to protect windows from explosions.

The Israeli army, which said it was targeting "infrastructure of the Iranian regime" in the morning, also continues to bombard Lebanon, where eight people were killed in a strike in the south of the country.

The war, which began two weeks ago, claimed its first French victim on Thursday night: a soldier killed by a "Shahad drone" in Iraqi Kurdistan, according to his commanding officer.

The US military, for its part, announced the death of four crew members in the crash of a US refueling plane in western Iraq, while assuring that it was not due to "hostile fire".

The attacks are also continuing in the Gulf.

Explosions were heard by AFP journalists in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, whose center was covered in a cloud of smoke on Friday morning.

Two people were killed by a drone in northern Oman, according to state media.

And Saudi Arabia announced that it had shot down a "hostile drone" heading towards the diplomatic quarter of its capital, Riyadh.

In his very first message on Thursday, Iran's new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized Iran's ability to sow chaos in the region.

And in particular by reducing the oil supply by continuing to block the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which one-fifth of the world's oil passes.

This major energy shock has very real consequences around the world: several airlines, such as Air France and SAS, have already raised some of their fares. In Nepal, only half-filled gas cylinders are now being sold.

Determined to continue this war in order to prevent Iran, the "evil empire", from acquiring "nuclear weapons", US President Donald Trump is simultaneously trying to contain this oil shock.

In order to reduce supply tensions, his administration announced on Thursday that it would temporarily allow the sale of Russian oil stored on ships, thus easing economic sanctions against Moscow.

After jumping 10% the previous day, the price of Brent crude, the global market benchmark, was still trading above $100 on Friday morning - a threshold crossed on Thursday for the first time since August 2022.

"The United States is in fact recognizing the obvious: without Russian oil, the global energy market cannot remain stable," Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev said.

Quand, même dans son propre pays, s’afficher en public relève d’un exploit pour les autorités, tout est clair.
