Gala de la presse: Trump dit que le suspect a écrit un manifeste antichrétien
The suspect apprehended Saturday after attempting to enter the press gala attended by Donald Trump wrote a "very anti-Christian" manifesto, the US president said Sunday on Fox News.
"When you read his manifesto, he hates Christians, there's no doubt about it," he said in the phone interview, speaking of a person who was "clearly very disturbed."
"He hates Christians, it's a deep hatred," the American president continued.
The gunman attempted to break into the gala, which was being held in a large hotel in the city, forcing the emergency evacuation of the US president and other officials.
According to Attorney General Todd Blanche, it appeared to be targeting senior officials in the US administration.
According to US media, the suspect is a 31-year-old man, Cole Tomas Allen, from Torrance, California.
"They have fairly reliable information" about him, Mr. Trump continued.
"He had been harboring a lot of hatred in his heart for quite some time. It was very anti-Christian," he added.
Speaking on X Sunday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, who was also evacuated from the room Saturday night, wrote that "what was supposed to be a friendly evening (...) where President Trump was to tell jokes and celebrate free speech, was hijacked by a depraved madman who sought to assassinate the president and kill as many senior Trump administration officials as possible."
