The man, who also admitted to regularly beating his wife, murdered his three children with unimaginable cruelty.
The father of three little girls who killed them in November 2023 by suffocating and stabbing them was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday by the Val-de-Marne Assize Court, according to the prosecutor's office, contacted by AFP. This sentence includes a minimum term of 22 years.
"This is a decision that acknowledges the testimony of the mother, a victim, and her three daughters, victims of vicarious violence," commented Isabelle Steyer, one of the lawyers for the civil party, after the verdict was announced. "A decision that recognizes the seriousness of the acts," she emphasized. The convicted man will not appeal the decision, his lawyer, Baptiste Hervieux, told AFP.
Youness E., 44, had custody of his three daughters for the weekend in November 2023. A few months earlier, his wife had filed for divorce and, according to his statements during the investigation, he could not bear the thought that his children could potentially be raised by another man.
"A normal man doesn't do that."
The perpetrator of the triple infanticide
On Saturday night, he drugged the little girls, suffocated the youngest, tried to do the same to the other two, and finished them off with a kitchen knife. "A normal man doesn't do that," he muttered during the hearing. According to him, he then considered suicide but, unable to go through with it, he went to Dieppe to turn himself in.
During the trial, he admitted to the acts and to beating his wife, but downplayed his actions towards her. Although he had already been convicted of domestic violence and violence against one of his daughters, he continued to deny having beaten his child before the murders. "I know I'm going to get a harsh sentence, but I don't want to be labeled. I never touched my daughter," he maintained.
The mother of his children had just described the ordeal of their life together: slapped at the wheel of her car while one of their daughters was in the back seat, beaten with a baseball bat... "He attacked my daughters because he knew very well that if he attacked me, I would defend myself," she stated before the court.
