Israël: quatre corps extraits des décombres au lendemain d'une frappe iranienne
Four bodies were recovered Monday from the rubble of a building in Haifa, northern Israel, which was hit the previous day by an Iranian ballistic missile, rescuers announced after a night of searching.
AFP images show four bodies, wrapped in white tarpaulins, being evacuated on stretchers minutes apart from the rubble of the seven-story residential building, almost entirely destroyed after a direct impact from an Iranian strike that occurred around 6:00 PM (3:00 PM GMT) on Sunday.
The Israeli army reported overnight that "four people were missing" and "many others were injured".
Firefighters had then said early Monday that they had "found two people trapped under the rubble without any signs of life" and rescuers had indicated that they were continuing their search for two other victims still trapped or out of contact.
Magen David Adom (MDA), the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross, said Monday at noon that "the four missing persons", namely a man and a woman of about 80 years old, a man of about 40 years old and a woman of about 35 years old, were extracted from the rubble "without any sign of life".
Since midnight, four salvos of missiles have been fired from Iran towards Israel, according to the Israeli army.
Several impact sites have been reported, including in Petah Tikva, in the center of the country, where a 34-year-old woman was seriously injured by shrapnel but was still conscious, according to the MDA.
Images circulating on social media show a projectile falling near a car parked on the side of the road, and the woman staggering away from it.
The Middle East has been plunged into a war since February 28th triggered by a joint attack by the United States and Israel against Iran, to which Tehran is responding with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several countries in the region.
