Jalouse de sa réussite, elle ég0rge sa propre sœur et lui vole sa Rolex
This is a chilling case that reminds us that sometimes the enemy comes from within.
In London, Nancy Pexton, a homeless woman, has just been found guilty of the atrocious murder of her own sister, Jennifer Abbott Dauward, a renowned film director.
The verdict was delivered this Wednesday, April 29th, at the Old Bailey court. The jury had no doubt: Nancy Pexton violently took the life of her blood relative, driven by a consuming jealousy and an insatiable desire for her sister's luxury.
In this case, the motive is as old as the world: the success of one in the face of the precariousness of the other.
Jennifer, 69, was a successful woman, a respected documentary filmmaker, living in the upscale Camden neighborhood. Nancy, her younger sister by only nine months, was living on the streets, dependent on social assistance.
Before dying, Jennifer had confided her fears to her nephew in prophetic messages:
"She was always jealous of me. All her life, she wanted what I had: my houses, my cars, my designer clothes. She wrote that she was going to kill me…"
On June 10th of last year, Nancy went to her sister's house with a KFC meal, as if to mask her intentions. An hour later, the crime was committed. Jennifer was stabbed to death, her throat slit, then her body was bound with duct tape and left under a sheet.
The most shocking thing for the public? After killing her sister, Nancy didn't just flee. She stole the gold and diamond Rolex watch that Jennifer always wore.
When the police found the item among the accused's belongings, she dared to claim that her sister had asked her to "keep it".
In an attempt to evade justice, Nancy Pexton offered multiple versions of events. She initially accused an alleged drug dealer in the neighborhood. She then claimed the blood on her clothes came from a simple "hug" when her sister had a nosebleed. Finally, she pleaded total "blackout."
But scientific evidence and witness testimonies have swept away these lies. The "shadow sister" has finally been caught by the truth. She now awaits her sentence, which is expected to be severe.
This tragedy cruelly illustrates how success can breed irreparable hatred, even within the same family. It has left the community reeling.
