Le narcotrafiquant "El Chapo", détenu aux Etats-Unis, demande son transfert au Mexique
"I am requesting a return to my country," wrote "El Chapo" in a handwritten letter addressed to a federal court in New York and dated April 23.
"This is a polite letter concerning (...) offenses that have not been proven in my case," he continued in broken English.
In another letter, the former drug kingpin denounces a life sentence that he considers "cruel" and "unjust", stating that he has been waiting for three years for the review of his appeal.
Extradited to the United States in 2017 after two spectacular escapes from Mexican prisons, then sentenced in 2019, the former co-founder of the Sinaloa cartel is serving his sentence in a very high-security prison in Colorado.
He complained repeatedly, in handwritten letters on lined paper, about his conditions of detention, his isolation, and the lack of family visits.
