The United States will revoke Colombian President Gustavo Petro's visa, the State Department announced Friday, accusing him of "reckless and inflammatory actions" during a protest in New York.
"Earlier today, Colombian President @petrogustavo stood on a New York City street and urged U.S. soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence. We will revoke Petro's visa due to his reckless and inflammatory actions," the State Department wrote on X.
Mr. Petro, who was in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in the city on Friday alongside British musician Roger Waters.
Videos released by the media showed the left-wing Colombian president calling over a loudspeaker for the creation of a "world rescue army whose first task will be to liberate Palestine."
"I call on all soldiers of the United States Army not to aim their rifles at humanity. Disobey Trump's order! Obey humanity's order!" he exclaimed.
According to Colombian media, Gustavo Petro is already on board a flight to Bogota.
Relations between Colombia and the United States have deteriorated significantly since Donald Trump came to power in January. On Tuesday, Mr. Petro called at the United Nations for "criminal proceedings" to be initiated against his American counterpart following deadly military strikes in the Caribbean that destroyed boats carrying, according to Washington, drugs.

Antonio Guterres, vous pouvez écrire l’Histoire !
