Normalisation des relations avec Israël : Le Kazakhstan rejoint les accords d'Abraham, selon un haut responsable américain

Kazakhstan will announce on Thursday that it is joining the Abraham Accords, a process which in 2020 saw several Arab countries normalize their relations with Israel, a senior White House official said.

He did not specify what this meant exactly for this Central Asian country, which, unlike previous signatories, already has diplomatic relations with Israel.

This senior official partly confirmed information from the Axios website, according to which Kazakhstan is seeking to deepen its relationship with Israel.

This country is participating Thursday evening, along with other Central Asian states, in a summit with the American president.

The Abraham Accords process is a diplomatic priority for Donald Trump.

"Many people are joining the Abraham Accords and I hope we will soon have Saudi Arabia," which does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, the US president said on Wednesday.

He also put pressure on Syria, whose president Ahmad al-Sharaa he is meeting with on Monday, to join this diplomatic initiative.

In 2020, the Abraham Accords led to the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries: the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.

But many countries have so far refused to join this process, in particular Saudi Arabia, as well as Syria and Lebanon, neighbors of Israel.

With the war in Gaza triggered by the attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, Riyadh ruled out any normalization with Israel without the creation of a sovereign and viable Palestinian state, a project opposed by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
