Révélations chocs de Robert Bourgi : Dominique de Villepin contraint de rendre les cadeaux offerts par Blaise Compaoré
This affair, reminiscent of Françafrique, has disrupted the French presidential pre-campaign. Dominique de Villepin, former Prime Minister and potential candidate for the 2027 election, returned two statuettes to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. This highly symbolic gesture follows explosive revelations made by lobbyist Robert Bourgi during the investigative program "Complément d'Enquête" broadcast on France 2.
Robert Bourgi, an emblematic and controversial figure in Franco-African networks, claimed to have acted as an intermediary in the gift of two Napoleon statuettes during Dominique de Villepin's tenure as Foreign Minister between 2002 and 2004. According to his statements, these works of art were financed by Blaise Compaoré, then President of Burkina Faso, and by the Italian businessman Gian Angelo Perrucci. For his part, Dominique de Villepin maintains that he was unaware of the true origin of these gifts, stating that he initially believed they were personal birthday presents from Robert Bourgi.
Beyond the provenance of the objects, a heated debate has erupted over their true value. Robert Bourgi puts forward a total amount of €125,000, or approximately 82 million CFA francs. However, the former Prime Minister's entourage formally disputes these figures, citing the expertise of a certified specialist. According to this source, the market value of the statuettes is four to five times lower, falling between €28,000 and €32,000 in total.
For Dominique de Villepin's inner circle, these revelations are nothing more than political maneuvers designed to undermine his presidential ambitions and create a smokescreen around Nicolas Sarkozy's legal troubles. Robert Bourgi, a loyal supporter of former President Sarkozy, is no stranger to such tactics. He had already played a significant role in François Fillon's downfall in 2017 with the suit scandal. This latest outburst reignites the debate about the practices of an era that many hoped was over at the highest levels of the French state.
