A bus struck and killed three people late Friday afternoon in central Stockholm, injuring three others, Swedish police announced. The double-decker bus crashed into a bus shelter, according to images from Swedish media showing a large number of ambulances and emergency vehicles at the scene of the accident.
"Three people have died in the incident and the identification process is ongoing. Three injured people were taken to hospital, two by ambulance and one by other means," police wrote in a statement.
The driver was arrested
The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage, said police spokeswoman Nadya Norton.
"The investigation will have to determine what happened. It is too early to comment and I do not want to speculate," she said.
The bus driver was arrested and a manslaughter investigation has been opened. "We need to question him, then we'll see if he'll be released or detained," Nadya Norton stated.
