Donald Trump has the "personality of an alcoholic," his chief of staff declared in a sensational article published Tuesday by Vanity Fair, which she described after publication as a "dishonestly presented biased piece."

Susie Wiles, a crucial cog in the campaign and now in the government, gave several interviews to the American magazine, which serve as a common thread in a long article devoted to the inner circle of the American president.

She gives her opinion, not always kind, on Vice President JD Vance and the Attorney General. But it is obviously her remarks about Donald Trump that have caused a stir.

According to her, the billionaire therefore has the "personality of an alcoholic", although he does not drink a drop of alcohol, in the sense that he "acts with the idea that there is nothing he cannot do. Nothing, zero, nothing."

She describes herself as "somewhat of an expert" on the subject, referring to her father, a famous American football player and sports commentator who had serious alcoholism problems.

Reacting to the publication on Tuesday, Susie Wiles denounced on X "a biased article presented in a dishonest manner" that paints "a chaotic and negative portrait" of the president and his team.

Donald Trump "has no more formidable and loyal advisor than Susie," White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt asserted on the same platform, while several other government figures rushed to the defense of the chief of staff.

"I have never seen her be disloyal," Vice President JD Vance said during a rally in Pennsylvania (northeast), "she is exactly the same person whether the president is there or not."

He did, however, acknowledge that there were some "disagreements" between them.

The "Chief of staff" - a discreet but extremely strategic role similar in France to that of Secretary General of the Elysée - is also questioned about the legal proceedings initiated by the American president against his political opponents.

According to Vanity Fair, she confided that she had spoken with Donald Trump about this revenge campaign, referring to an "informal agreement that the settling of scores (would stop) before the first three months" of the second term.

Susie Wiles also claims that Donald Trump does not intend to run again in 2028, which is prohibited by the Constitution, but that he regularly brings up the subject because "it amuses him" and it "drives people crazy."

The chief of staff also criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, a sex offender with whom Donald Trump had close ties in the past.

"She made a complete mistake in judging that this was only of interest to a very targeted group of people," while many supporters of the Republican president are demanding more transparency on this issue, says Susie Wiles.

Asked about Vice President JD Vance's political about-face, from critic to supporter of Donald Trump, she believes that "his conversion was a little more political" than that of Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, who she says genuinely rallied to the American president out of conviction.

Susie Wiles also describes the vice president as a believer in conspiracy theories.

JD Vance and Marco Rubio are often presented as rivals in the race to succeed Donald Trump.

According to Vanity Fair, which also spoke to him, the foreign minister ruled out competing against the vice president in the 2028 presidential election: "If JD Vance runs for president, he will be our candidate and I will be one of the first to support him."
