Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had called off a planned attack against Iran on Tuesday, in response to a request from leaders of Gulf countries, and claimed that "serious negotiations" were taking place.

The US president added, however, that the United States stands ready to launch a "full-scale, all-out attack against Iran at any time, if an acceptable agreement is not reached" with Tehran, in a message on his Truth Social network.

He specifies that the request to suspend the military operation comes from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, who, according to him, believe that an agreement is possible.

The agreement in question must ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, writes Donald Trump, who however gives no further details.

"For Iran, time is running out, and they had better act quickly, otherwise there will be nothing left of them," the American president threatened on Sunday, again on Truth Social.

Tehran indicated on Monday that it had responded to a new proposal from the United States to end the war in the Middle East, which began on February 28.

A fragile ceasefire has been in place since April 8, but according to the latest reports, the positions of the two sides remained very far apart.

According to the Iranian news agency Fars, Washington has presented a list of five points demanding, among other things, that Iran maintain only one nuclear site in operation and transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the United States.

L’Iran respectait scrupuleusement les termes de l'accord conclu en 2018. Pourquoi penser qu’une décision unilatérale de force brute parviendrait à faire capituler l’Iran et le mettre à genou? Un précédent qu’il ne faudrait nullement céder. Nul ne se soumettra à l’ennemi qui ne fera pas pitié. Des antécédents l’ont clairement démontré en Irak et en Lybie. La force ne doit prévaloir sur un accord international dont les USA étaient parti inclusif. Pourquoi le monde, en l’occurrence l’ONU et l’UE, se tait, croise les bras et regarde faire l’arbitraire et l’injustice cruelle de la loi de la jungle?
