Un bombardier américain à nouveau repéré près des côtes du Venezuela
A US B-1B bomber flew over the Caribbean Sea off Venezuela on Thursday, according to flight tracking data, the second such show of force in recent days as Donald Trump flexes his muscles against the South American country.
Denied by the American president, this flight comes amid military operations led by the United States in the Caribbean in the name of combating drug trafficking. These operations are denounced by Caracas as a campaign aimed at destabilizing the power of President Nicolas Maduro.
Data from the specialist website Flightradar24 showed that a B-1B flew towards the Venezuelan coast on Thursday afternoon before turning back.
"That's false," Donald Trump said during an event at the White House, adding that the United States was "unhappy with Venezuela for many reasons."
Last week, US-based B-52 bombers flew near the Venezuelan coast for several hours.
Donald Trump has deployed fighter jets and ships to the region as part of what he describes as an anti-narcotics operation.
After carrying out strikes against ships accused of links to drug trafficking in the Caribbean, the United States this week extended this campaign to the Pacific Ocean.
In total, Washington has claimed responsibility for nine such attacks in recent weeks, leaving at least 37 dead.
The legality of these operations is widely questioned by experts.
The campaign also heightened tensions between the Trump administration and left-wing Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
