18 Sénégalais «otages» du Maroc : surprenant rebondissement
The case of the eighteen Senegalese supporters convicted in Morocco for their involvement in the incidents during the final of the last Africa Cup of Nations has been reopened. The Moroccan public prosecutor and the civil parties have appealed the decision of the Rabat court, which, on February 19, sentenced the defendants to prison terms ranging from one to three years.
The defense had chosen not to appeal the verdict, hoping to be able to petition for a royal pardon. This prospect is ruled out until the case is definitively decided.
In a statement reported by L'Observateur, Me Patrick Kabou, one of the lawyers for the Senegalese supporters involved, gives the information and indicates that he "had anticipated this possibility by communicating widely on the severity of the first sentences, hoping thus to dissuade the Moroccan public prosecutor from going further".
