Affaire Aïcha Faty contre l’homme d’affaires Abdoulaye Thiam : Le tribunal a tranché
The Dakar criminal court has delivered its verdict in the case between Senegalese businessman Abdoulaye Thiam and Gambian Aïcha Faty. Faty was being prosecuted for fraud amounting to 1.3 billion CFA francs.

In its ruling on April 9, 2026, the court rejected the objections of lack of jurisdiction and lis pendens raised by the defense, before declaring the prosecution admissible. On the merits, the judge dismissed the charges against Aïcha Faty.
In the civil action, the plaintiff Abdoulaye Thiam was denied all of his claims, which were deemed unfounded.
During the trial, Abdoulaye Thiam sought 2 billion CFA francs in damages. In his closing arguments, the public prosecutor requested a three-year prison sentence and an immediate arrest warrant. Aïcha Faty was placed under house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
