CAN-2025: début du procès de 18 supporters sénégalais après les incidents de la finale au Maroc
The trial of 18 Senegalese supporters, placed in pre-trial detention and prosecuted for acts of "hooliganism" during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, opened Thursday before a Moroccan court, defense lawyers told AFP.
But the Rabat court of first instance "decided to postpone the trial until January 29 to allow the defense and civil party lawyers to prepare their case," said lawyer Naïma El Guellaf.
The 18 Senegalese had been taken into custody, suspected of "hooliganism" that marred the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal on Sunday, a judicial source told AFP on Monday, adding that an Algerian national had also been arrested.
The latter's lawyer, Jaouad Benaissi, stated on Thursday that his client, "a French citizen of Algerian origin", is being prosecuted for the same acts while in detention.
A few minutes before the end of regulation time in the match, which Senegal won 1-0 after extra time, dozens of Senegalese supporters tried to invade the pitch for almost 15 minutes, before being subdued with difficulty by law enforcement and stewards.
Several Senegalese supporters threw projectiles towards the pitch, including at least one chair.
Furthermore, the Rabat court of first instance on Monday sentenced an Algerian supporter and influencer to three months in prison, notably for "public indecency" during a match, according to local press.
He was arrested in early January after posting a video in which he said he was so scared as a supporter that he was going to "urinate" in the stands of the Rabat stadium where the round of 16 of the AFCON was being played between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
