CHAMBRE CRIMINELLE DE THIÈS : M. Guèye jugé pour le meurtre de son oncle, le parquet demande sa relaxe au bénéfice du doute

Young M. Guèye is on trial this Monday, January 12, before the criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court. He is accused of killing his uncle, C. Mbaye, a taxi driver, in 2021 in the Diamaguène neighborhood of Thiès. That day, after getting out of the taxi, the victim was lost to his family. His body was found a few days later in a canal belonging to the National Sanitation Office (ONAS).

The witness, Mr. Sow, stated that C. Mbaye disappeared on a Friday at 10 p.m. Informed three days after his disappearance, he went to C. Mbaye's home to inquire about the situation. They searched everywhere in the house, even the septic tank, but to no avail. The witness noted that the victim had left his driver's license papers in his bedroom, which, he said, showed no signs of violence.

Mr. Sow pointed out that the taxi driver's phone and mattress were found in the room of the suspect, Mr. Guèye. This leads him to believe that Mr. Guèye killed his friend, C. Mbaye. He then stated that the accused had a strained relationship with his deceased uncle and had threatened his aunt with death.

But Sow specified that after the gruesome discovery, ONAS agents stressed that a single person could not have removed the cover of the sewer where C. Mbaye was found without making a sound.

However, Mr. Guèye denied the accusations. He acknowledged that his relationship with his uncle was strained, but that he was not responsible for his death.

The public prosecutor stated that there was no physical evidence to confirm the defendant's guilt. He considered Mr. Guèye a suspect, but not guilty, because he was not caught in the act nor were any traces of blood found in the residence. He requested his acquittal based on reasonable doubt.

Deliberated on February 9, 2026.
