Colonel Cheikh Guèye, Com-zone n° 5 South: a star-studded career

Colonel Cheikh Guèye, Com-zone n° 5 Sud : un parcours étoilé

Colonel Cheikh Guèye is the new Commander of Military Zone No. 5 South. He officially took office, 3 months after his appointment. He replaces Colonel Yayakh Diop who spent 2 years at the head of this command (2023-2025). Before his arrival in Ziguinchor, Colonel Cheikh Guèye was Commander-in-Chief of the National School for Active Officers, located in Kaolack (2023-2025)

The new Ziguinchor Zone Commander is from the 18th class of the National School of Active Officers (ENOA). The class is named Captain Mohamadou Bamba Diouf.

Having graduated from the school in 2002, this soldier followed the infantry section leader application course at the infantry application school in Thiès from 2001 to 2002. He then completed a 4-month immersion training course in a marching regiment in Compiègne.

After this, he continued his training abroad, in the United States. From 2005 to 2006, he attended the Future Unit Commanders Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 2010, he completed his staff course in Gabon.

From 2016 to 2017, Colonel Guèye attended the advanced warfare course at the National Defense University in Beijing, China. This course enabled him to obtain a higher military education certificate and a Master's degree in strategy and defense.

Colonel Cheikh Guèye holds a master's degree from the Faculty of Economics and Management at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.

An infantry officer by training, Colonel Guèye has held several command and management positions since the beginning of his career.

From 2000 to 2001, he was a section leader in the 3rd Company of Riflemen of the 1st Infantry Battalion. He then worked at ENOA, as a section leader for the 23rd promotion.

Colonel Cheikh Guèye commanded the 33rd Infantry Company, of the 3rd Infantry Battalion from 2005 to 2007. From 2007 to 2008 he led the Support and Service Command Company, of the 5th Infantry Battalion.

Between 2008 and 2010, Colonel Guèye was head of the training operations office at the 12th training battalion. From 2011 to 2013, he was editor of the training management division of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, before becoming an assistant officer at the 6th Infantry Battalion in Kolda from 2013 to 2016.

From July 2017 to July 2019, he served as the corps commander of the 3rd Infantry Battalion. He was also a group professor at the Senegalese Defense Institute from January to July 2021, then director of the staff school at the same institute from July 2021 to July 2023.

From 2023 to 2025, he will command the National School for Active Officers.

- Successful missions abroad

Internationally, Colonel Guèye has participated in several external operations. He commanded the second company of SEN 9, within the framework of MONUC, the United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was then designated liaison officer for the northern sector within the framework of MUNIAT, the joint UN/African Union mission in Darfur, from 2008 to 2009.

In 2017, he took command of the 2nd bilateral battalion in Gambia, as part of the ECOWAS intervention, before leading from December 2019 to February 2020, the new Senegalese contingent of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.

Several decorations to his credit

Colonel Cheikh Guèye has received distinctions on several occasions, both nationally and internationally.

Abroad, he received the MONUC medal in 2006. In 2009, he received the UNAMID medal. He also received the ECOWAS medal in Gambia and the MINUSMA medal in 2010.

At the national level, Colonel Cheikh Guèye was made a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Senegal in 2016. Medal of Honor of the Army in 2018, Cross of Military Valor with Silver Star in 2024, Officer of the National Order of the Lion in 2025.

Colleague Cheikh Guèye is multilingual, he speaks French, English, German and Wolof.

    Great career for a young man. Congratulations. Comment Macky a t'il reussi a abuser du Senegal, de ses ressources et de sa constitution 12 annees durant alors que l'armee Senegalaise regorgeait d'officiers officiers aussi bien formes sur les valeurs de la republique et la necessite de les proteger contre tout danger: Externe comme internes.

    Il est très fort le colonel. Sorti en 2002 de l'enoa, il est en .. 2001 chef de section d'une compagnie des fusiliers voltigeurs. Deukeu bo khameni doul ba falou. Beaucoup d'incohérences dans le parcours. Ce n'est pas de sa faute. C'est le doulnaliste
