The summons of journalist Pape Ngagne Ndiaye by the Urban Security Directorate, related to his program "Faram Facce," continues to generate reactions in the political sphere. Thierno Bocoum, president of the AGIR-LES LEADERS movement, sees it as a worrying sign regarding the state of civil liberties.

He believes that this recurrence "reveals persistent contradictions" within the regime led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

According to him, both authorities express a desire to build a "fair, impartial, and independent" justice system, but struggle to translate this ambition into action. "Neither seems to genuinely oppose the proliferation of legal proceedings," he laments, referring to the establishment of a climate of intimidation targeting critical voices.

The political leader therefore questions the credibility of the official discourse on freedom of opinion. "Who, today, can consistently claim to be a credible defender of it?" he asks, directly pointing the finger at the highest authorities of the State.

Thierno Bocoum also revisited earlier remarks by the Prime Minister. Ousmane Sonko had mentioned a desire to "erase" some of his critics, a statement which, according to Bocoum, warrants clarification. In this context, he questioned the Head of State about his role as guarantor of the institutions, inquiring about the measures taken to prevent any abuses.

"So far, there is no evidence to identify strong, public and unequivocal acts," he says, calling for a clear red line to be drawn against any pressure exerted on the media and dissenting opinions.

For Thierno Bocoum, the current situation demands a firm response. He insists that freedom of thought and expression is a fundamental pillar of the rule of law and calls for a definitive end to all attempts at intimidation.
