Corruption : Il glisse 20 000 FCFA à l'agent Amoul Yakar et finit au Tribunal
Here is one of the few drivers who doesn't know the notoriously incorruptible police officer Mamadou Amoul Yakar Diouf. Assane Faye, 29, a public transport driver, slipped 20,000 CFA francs to the officer who had issued him a ticket. Arrested and remanded in custody on April 13, 2026, the driver was tried this Wednesday at the Dakar Magistrates' Court for corruption.
In court, the defendant admitted to the corruption charges against him before offering his apologies. "I was leaving on a trip. The police officer stopped me, asking for my driving documents. My vehicle had some defects. Afterwards, he gave me a receipt and told me to go pay the fine. I went to his office to collect my documents. I wrote 20,000 on the receipt," the defendant stated.
The plaintiff, police adjutant Mamadou Amoul Yakar Diouf, did not appear at the hearing.
The public prosecutor requested a one-month prison sentence, a fine of 50,000 FCFA, and the confiscation of 20,000 FCFA. The defense, represented by lawyers Dionewar Soumaré and Noyine Mbothie, requested leniency in the application of the penal law.
Delivering its verdict, the court found the defendant guilty. He was sentenced to a one-month suspended sentence and a fine of 20,000 FCFA. The judge also ordered the confiscation, for the benefit of the public treasury, of the 20,000 FCFA with which he attempted to bribe officer Amoul Yakar.
