Diffusion de fausses nouvelles : Le chroniqueur Modou Fall risque 6 mois ferme
Sen TV commentator Modou Fall appeared before the court on Monday for spreading false news. During a news program, he stated that the regime wanted to blame the opposition for the demonstration at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD). As a result, the public prosecutor took up the case and ordered his arrest.
In court, Modou Fall denied the charges of spreading false news. He defended himself by claiming he made the statements to raise awareness. He reminded the court that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko had declared that politicians were funding students.
In his observations, the prosecutor concluded that the columnist was guilty of the acts and requested a six-month prison sentence.
The defense, led by lawyers El Hadj Diouf, Aboubacry Barro and Alphonse Faye, argued for acquittal, because there was no fake news, especially since their client's remarks had already been made by the Prime Minister.
