Distribution « inéquitable » de l’Aide à la presse : le parquet lance la Sûreté urbaine contre...
Following inflammatory statements regarding the distribution of press subsidies, the president of the NGO Jamra, Mame Matar Guèye, is facing imminent questioning. According to its sources, L'Observateur reports that the Dakar prosecutor's office has opened proceedings against him, specifying that his summons to the Urban Security (SU) headquarters should be imminent: "no later than Wednesday."
The same source explains that the origin of this affair lies in a widely circulated video in which he denounces an "unfair" and "shameful" distribution of an estimated 1.5 billion CFA francs. He claims, in particular, that a significant portion, one billion, was directed towards media outlets considered favorable to the government, while the remainder was divided among independent organizations, "a few online news sites," and "three television stations."
To support his claims, Mame Matar Guèye was keen to recall the evolution of this subsidy, which went from 700,000 CFA francs under Abdou Diouf to 1.5 billion under Macky Sall.
Given the seriousness of these allegations of favoritism, the prosecutor has issued a formal request to investigators at the Dakar Central Police Station. The purpose of this hearing is twofold: first, to verify whether the president of Jamra possesses documents or specific evidence to substantiate his claims. If he does not, he could face prosecution, particularly for spreading false news, according to the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
