Duel judiciaire entre Paulette Rita Badiane et le Pr. Moussa Seydi : Le tribunal a tranché
The Dakar Criminal Court delivered its verdict on Wednesday in the case opposing Paulette Rita Xavière Badiane to the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Service of Fann Hospital, headed by Professor Moussa Seydi.
Prosecuted for defamation against a public administration, the defendant was found guilty of the charges against her. The court rejected the defense's objection of lack of standing regarding Professor Seydi.
In his ruling, the judge sentenced Paulette Rita Xavière Badiane to three months' imprisonment, suspended, and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs. She was also ordered to pay 3,000,000 CFA francs in damages to the plaintiff. The court ordered the return of her passport.
At the hearing on March 11, the plaintiff requested 300 million CFA francs in compensation for the damages suffered. The public prosecutor, for his part, requested a six-month suspended sentence and a fine of one million CFA francs.
The events stem from a live broadcast on TikTok, during which Paulette Rita Xavière Badiane, a teacher and intercultural mediator specializing in migration, made remarks implicating the Infectious Diseases Department at Fann Hospital. She accused the intensive care unit headed by Professor Seydi of committing a medical error that led to the death of her mother-in-law.
