Liberté provisoire sous bracelet électronique accordée à Soya Diagne
The senior investigating judge at the Dakar High Court issued a provisional release order today for journalist Soya Diagne. However, this measure is subject to strict conditions.
Placed in pretrial detention on October 16, Soya Diagne could soon be released from his cell. The investigating magistrate has decided to grant him provisional release, subject to wearing an electronic bracelet.
While this decision represents an initial victory for the journalist's defense, his actual release remains contingent on the public prosecutor's position. The prosecutor has a legal deadline of six days to appeal this ruling. If the prosecutor's office does not object within this timeframe, Soya Diagne will be able to "breathe the air of freedom."
As a reminder, Soya Diagne's imprisonment follows his hearing before the Senior Investigating Judge last October. He is being prosecuted on two main charges: spreading false news and making statements contrary to public morals.
