Maïmouna Ndour Faye à Yacine Fall : "il faudrait qu'elle lâche et elle va lâcher"
The director of 7TV, Maïmouna Ndour Faye, announced the possible reopening of the legal case related to the arrest of journalists Babacar Fall and herself. The case originated following interviews given by Madiambal Diagne. According to her, the information comes from "reliable and corroborated" sources and follows a written order issued by the Minister of Justice, Yacine Fall, to the public prosecutor.
In an interview, Maïmouna Ndour Faye emphasized the importance of the written nature of this referral, believing it would compel the prosecutor to comply. She recalled that a previous decision by the prosecutor's office had led to the dismissal of the case, the prosecutor being, in her words, "in charge of prosecutions." This new direction could now lead to the opening of a judicial inquiry and, potentially, the appointment of an investigating judge.
The journalist firmly rejects any legal basis for further prosecution, asserting that the alleged actions were strictly within the scope of the journalistic profession.
"There is no case to prosecute in this matter. We were released under the pretext that there was no prosecution," she said.
She also expressed reservations about the independence of the proceedings, recalling the concerns she said she had voiced during the appointment of Yacine Fall as Minister of Justice. However, she stated that she remained hopeful that the justice system would simply uphold the law.
Maïmouna Ndour Faye sees a political motivation in this possible revival, citing "political and partisan reasons".
"She wants to reopen the case for political reasons. This confirms my fears regarding the appointment of Yacine Fall."
"I said I had no confidence in her appointment. Because she might just be there to carry out political orders. Then people say Yacine Fall is stubborn, she doesn't give up. On this matter, she needs to give up and she will," insisted the director of 7TV.
Adding that neither she nor Babacar Fall would accept being "the sacrificial lambs," she clarified that justice is not like going to a restaurant, where "you order à la carte the methods of arrest, the methods of punishment, the methods of detention, the methods of physical, psychological, and emotional extortion."
Beyond their personal situation, the director of 7TV is calling for the mobilization of media professionals, believing that this case raises broader issues concerning press freedom and the viability of media companies. She also denounces abuses that, in her view, are disrupting the normal functioning of news outlets.
