Mise en danger de la vie d'autrui : Un chauffeur de VTC sanctionné par le tribunal de Dakar
Mamadou Bailo Diallo, a ride-hailing driver, appeared before the Dakar court on Wednesday on charges of endangering the lives of others. On February 20, 2026, a video posted on the Facebook page "Let's Fight Indiscipline in Senegal" showed a driver driving around a bus stop. The scene quickly sparked outrage online.
Identified by the police, the driver was placed under arrest warrant on March 2, 2026 by the prosecutor's office.
In court, he explained the circumstances of his actions: “It was on the road to Yoff. I was transporting a patient who had just left the Philippe Senghor hospital. The person was suffering greatly and, due to the traffic jam, I followed another vehicle which passed behind the bus stop. Someone filmed me. I just wanted to save the patient,” he said before offering his apologies.
The public prosecutor requested the application of the criminal law, while the defense attorney pleaded for leniency from the court. The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 100,000 CFA francs.
