POURSUIVI POUR VOL DE TISSU : Le procureur requiert 3 mois, le prévenu éclate en sanglots
Married and a father, F. Mbengue is being prosecuted for stealing fabric from the shopkeeper D. Sylla in Thiès.
That day, F. Mbengue entered the woman's shop posing as a customer. Hoping to deceive those present, he stole a piece of fabric. He was arrested, beaten, and handed over to the police.
In the dock of the Thiès court, the defendant was tried in the absence of the plaintiff. Before the judge, F. Mbengue initially denied the accusations: "I didn't steal the fabric, I picked it up." And when the judge wanted to postpone the case to summon the plaintiff for a confrontation, the defendant recanted his allegations and confessed to the theft. "Okay! I admit it. I ask the court for leniency because I have a family to feed. This won't happen again," F. Mbengue confessed.
Despite everything, the public prosecutor considered the facts to be established and requested a three-month prison sentence. This indictment caused the defendant to burst into tears, once again pleading for leniency from the court.
But the judge found him guilty and sentenced him to two months in prison.
