Saly : accident de jet ski, 20 millions réclamés pour la victime, le conducteur risque gros
The tragic jet ski accident in Saly, denounced on social media by Riad Kawar with the message "Jet Ski Murderers in Saly!", brought Baye Cheikh Ndiaye, originally from Darou Mousty, married and father of three children, before the Mbour High Court on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Prosecuted for unintentional injury and hit and run, he risks a year in prison.
A dramatic accident
On July 27, 2025, around 5 p.m., Baye Cheikh Ndiaye, after renting a jet ski at the Téranga nautical base for a ten-minute ride, collided with a towed banana boat. At the helm, he defended himself: "I didn't hit them, they came at me. The banana boat hit my machine. I stayed there until they were rescued, then I left." Back at the base, he claims to have informed the manager, who simply checked the condition of the jet ski and mentioned costs of 600,000 FCFA, without inquiring about the victims. Baye Cheikh Ndiaye also says he tried, without success, to contact the victim's family.
The father's poignant testimony
Mouhamed Del Aly, the father of the injured child, gave a moving account: "I was with my son and nephew on the banana boat. I shouted several times for him to be careful, but he hit us. My nephew was fine, but my son was floating with his head in the water." The child underwent major surgery for a fractured femur and a double skull fracture, requiring the installation of plates and screws. "We wonder if he will be able to grow normally," added Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Ndiaye, the family's lawyer, who is seeking 20 million CFA francs in damages for the civil party and 2 million for the company Extrême Jet.
A controversy over navigation zones
The proceedings revealed that the jet ski and the banana boat came from separate water sports centers. According to defense attorney Mouhamadou Fadel Fall, the banana boat had encroached on the area reserved for jet skis, an allegation disputed by its driver.
Requisitions and deliberations
The prosecutor requested a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs for Baye Cheikh Ndiaye. The lawyer for the Téranga base argued for his client to be exonerated, while the civil party requested recognition of the company's civil liability and payment of damages. The verdict is expected on September 9, 2025.
