Somone : le maire sortant réclame 250 millions F CFA à un conseiller municipal
El Hadji Boubacar Sadji, former mayor of Somone, and Aliou Ciss, municipal councilor, are facing off in the dock of the Mbour criminal court in a defamation case against the backdrop of a land dispute.
The newspaper L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, reports that the conflict dates back to July 13th. During a broadcast on "Somone TV," Aliou Ciss strongly criticized the former mayor's management, calling it "shady." He accused him, in particular, of squandering municipal land, colluding with the general manager of the Baobab Hotel, and the controversial transfer of the former craft village site to this hotel, to the detriment of the local population, according to the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM).
In court, the defendant admitted to making the offending remarks, while maintaining that he was speaking generally without naming the outgoing mayor; a version contested by the plaintiff, who saw it as a direct attack. Feeling humiliated after twelve years at the head of the municipality, El Hadji Boubacar Sadji is demanding 250 million CFA francs in damages.
The decision will be made on March 16th, concludes the Gfm headline.
