TGI de Pikine-Guédiawaye : 23 juges requis, 9 seulement en poste (ministre de la Justice)
During a visit to the High Court (TGI) of Pikine-Guédiawaye this weekend, the Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, Yassine Fall, outlined the structural difficulties affecting the jurisdiction.
Accompanied by the main judicial authorities of the jurisdiction, the minister met with local stakeholders to address recurring challenges, namely the critical shortage of magistrates and clerks, the overload of judicial services and the massive use of pre-trial detention.
“At the national level, only 436 magistrates are in office for a need of 1,324. In Pikine-Guédiawaye, 9 judges are in office for 23 required and only 3 magistrates instead of 7. In 2025, the prosecutor’s office recorded more than 16,000 complaints, with already 4,728 in the first quarter of 2026 and more than 1,000 provisional detainees,” she said on her Facebook page.

The president of the High Court, Amath Sy, took this opportunity to make specific requests. He advocated for increased material resources, including the construction of a large courtroom and the creation of new investigating chambers to improve working conditions and case processing.
In response, Minister Yassine Fall reaffirmed a commitment to reform rooted in a comprehensive approach. According to her, the sustainable improvement of the judicial system's performance requires combined action on human resources, ongoing staff training, and the organization of the courts.
According to her, the stated objective is to achieve "a more accessible, more efficient and more humane justice system".
