Tgi Fatick : le commerçant, le ladoum et les faux billets

A trader, named EA Nd., appeared before the Fatick flagrante delicto court. He had been arrested in Fimela with counterfeit notes totaling 330,000 CFA francs.

It all began at the weekly market in Nguéniène, where the accused sold a Ladoum sheep to a man named D. Fall. According to him, the latter gave him only counterfeit bills. Unable to distinguish between real and fake, the trader claims to have cashed the money without suspecting anything.

Back in Fimela, he went to a bar-restaurant to buy a chicken dish, paying with a 10,000 CFA franc note. While checking the cash register, the owner discovered that two 10,000 CFA franc notes were counterfeit, without knowing their origin. The next day, the defendant sent a delivery man to the same restaurant again with another 10,000 CFA franc note. But this time, the suspicious saleswomen alerted their boss, who immediately informed the police. When questioned, the delivery man admitted to acting on behalf of EA Nd., who was immediately arrested.

A search of his shop revealed the remaining 310,000 CFA francs, having already put the 20,000 CFA francs into circulation.

In court, the trader denied any fraudulent intent. "I didn't know the money was fake. It was the first time I'd seen anything like it. I sold my sheep to a customer I didn't know at a weekly market. He gave me 330,000 CFA francs, and I only used the 20,000 CFA francs," he said.

The defense pleaded for acquittal on the grounds of doubt. But the court ultimately found him guilty of the charges and sentenced him to a three-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 1,650,000 CFA francs.
